Autonomous driving is a technology that helps the vehicle reach its destination without driver’s direct manipulation by recognizing the vehicle’s external environment and condition, making a judgment based on the recognized information, and then controlling the vehicle. Autonomous driving technology is regarded as the core of future mobility technology not only by traditional automobile manufacturers but world-leading IT companies are also actively participating in the development. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) classifies autonomous driving technology into six levels (level 0 to level 5) according to the level of automation.
The autonomous driving market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 41% to reach $1.12 trillion by 2035. It is worth noting whether the development and dissemination of fully autonomous vehicles will accelerate when the robo-taxi (unmanned taxi) service (with autonomous driving level 4) is launched as early as 2023.
